Newsletter June 2010

In a world where nothing seems to last

and traditions are often disregarded for the sake of expediency, there are those who work to preserve traditions and values that have provided inspiration and comfort throughout the ages. One of those traditions is the fine art of portraiture.

Portrait Artist - 2010 Interview - Portrait Society of America

1. Can you tell us some information about the subject and inspiration for your Portrait?

When I first saw Lawrence I realized immediately that one day I would paint his portrait. I did not know when and how but I knew that I wanted to do it. I would say he is a man who draws you to him and it is difficult not to become interested in him. For a while he was ill and  his looks changed considerably. He did not play his guitar in church any more.

The Genesis of Our Portrait

How did it all begin?

Well, on morning my husband, Howard and I were lingering over our breakfast cup of coffee when he surprised me by saying he would like to have a portrait of me, similar to the one of his Aunt Bea who was displayed on the wall in our bedroom. His Aunt Bea was his mother’s sister and was beautiful as a young women and it showed in her picture. The frame was oval and it especially appealed to my husband. If we decided to go ahead with this exciting project it would be done in a oval frame.
