Mrs. Helen L. Hilton Sowell, 79, died at 12:44 AM PDT Tuesday 30 March 2010 at her residence in Palos Verdes Estates, California. She was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and graduated from Meeker (Oklahoma) High School, and the University of California at Los Angeles, where she earned a B.A. degree in Speech and Education. She later earned an M.A. degree in Speech and Language Disorders from California State University, Long Beach.
For more than 40 years, she worked as a Speech Pathologist for the Hermosa Beach Unified School District, the County of Los Angeles, and the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District. She was a patron of theater and performing arts throughout her life, and was active for many years in the Palos Verdes Players. She also served in various leadership roles in her church for many years.
