“Inna Before Carnival” 2005. Oil on canvas 45.2 x 33.5”

Every artist would like to have this kind of a portrait painting story. Inna’s family attends the Venice Carnival every year. But this time we too went along as they had commissioned the portrait painting. Together we chose the dress and the most ideal back ground.
I began by sketching and photographing my model on location in Venice. I then completed the work in my home studio.
When my model Inna was unable to come to the studio, I improvised by building a wire frame for the dress. I did this in order to paint the clothes as realistically as possible, in order to keep the integrity of her character in the pose.
