 The Art of Healing:

Carolyn and Julian Elliott Honor Sister Terrence Landini, L.C.M., with Aapo Pukk Portrait. How fitting it is that this friendship between a caring benefactor, a masterful artist and a beloved Sister takes shape in a beautiful art form that will grace the halls of Little Company for years to come.

Providence Little Company of Mary Foundation Trustee Emeriti Carolyn Elliott and her husband Julian recently honored Sister Terrence Landini, L.C.M., by commissioning artist Aapo Pukk to paint her portrait.  The portrait was first unveiled in December 2008 at Little Company of Mary Foundation’s board of trustee holiday dinner at the City Club of Los Angeles.  On April 30, Aapo will once again join Carolyn, Julian and Sister Terrence at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance to view the masterpiece hanging at the entrance to the Centofante Family Chapel, near the Hannon Tower.

Carolyn’s inspiration for the portrait began as she was walking the halls of Little Company’s Hannon Tower, recovering from a surgery there.  Carolyn was familiar with the beautiful healing environment as she had served as the Chair of Campaign 2000, which secured the community funds to build the tower.
As a patient, Carolyn appreciated the original watercolor designs throughout the halls and she wanted to add a special piece of art to that collection.  She then combined her appreciation for the work of artist Aapo Pukk with her fondness for Little Company of Mary’s Sister Terrence – and the portrait was born!
Truth be told, the artist and the Sister had already met when Baby Aaron Pukk was born at Little Company.  So, it was a natural pairing when artist Aapo and Sister Terrence spent many hours together in the chapel during the portrait-sitting.

In 2010, the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their ministry to the sick and the dying in the South Bay – Little Company of Mary Hospital first opened in 1960. How fitting it is that this friendship between a caring benefactor, a masterful artist and a beloved Sister takes shape in a beautiful art form that will grace the halls of Little Company for years to come.
